Nick Turrell picks up the Garden Media Guild’s New Talent Award 2013
The Garden Media Guild awards were held at the InterContinental London Park Lane hotel today (27 November, 2013). The awards recognise the very best communicators and media professionals across the gardening and horticultural industries. Nick Turrell, writer for the Guardian, Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Times, overcame stiff competition from other newcomers to scoop The Alan Titchmarsh New Talent Award. The Garden Media Guild works to raise the quality of writing, photography and broadcasting in the gardening and horticultural world and works with professionals across all communication disciplines. Nick’s writing style is original, refreshing and accomplished. Often funny and sparky, his features are strong and interesting while making serious points. Nick is an engaging writer who has written some very enjoyable pieces during his first year. Alan Titchmarsh, English gardener, broadcaster and novelist, says, “Spreading the word about the value of horticulture is vital, but so too is the way in which it is done. Infectious enthusiasm and a passion for what we do is so important, as is generosity of spirit towards young people keen to join the crusade. We must fire up the next generation of gardening writers and broadcasters, passing on our enthusiasm, knowledge and experience without boring them rigid or being afraid that they will one day take over.”
